It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.

I want to know what you ache for,

And if you dare to dream of meeting 

Your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are.

I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool

For love, for your dream, 

For the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon.

I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow,

If you have been opened by life's betrayals,

Or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain, 

Mine or your own,

Without moving 

To hide it or fade it or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, 

Mine or your own,

If you can dance with wildness 

and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes 

Without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, 

or to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true.

I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself,

If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul. 

I want to know if you can be faithless and therefore be trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty 

Even when it is not pretty every day,

And if you can source your life 

From its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, 

Yours and mine,

And still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, 

"Yes!"

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.

I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair,

Weary and bruised to the bone, 

And do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn't interest me who you are, how you came to be here.

I want to know if you will stand 

In the center of the fire with me 

And not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.

I want to know what sustains you 

From the inside 

When all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone 

With yourself,

And if you truly like the company you keep 

In the empty moments.

پلیس زبان ، نگهبان زبان یا ...

مجتبا پورمحسن: در تاریخ زبان فارسی كم نبوده‌اند كسانی‌ كه خود را نگهبان زبان فارسی دانسته‌اند و حداقل نیت‌شان این بوده كه فارسی را به زعم خود از گزند كژی‌ها و ناراستی‌ها در امان بدارند.

در قرن معاصر نیز از این نوع ادبای سنت‌گرا بسیار بوده‌اند كه همچون گزمه در نیمه‌شب زبان فارسی در ناتینگهام پرسه می‌زنند تا پای رابین هود به قصر جان، برادر ریچارد شیردل، نرسد. غرض از این مطلب پاسخ به تمام موارد مطروحه در این زمینه نیست. آنچه باعث شد تا دست به نوشتن این مطلب ببرم، زمزمه‌ها و گلایه‌هایی از موضع بالایی است كه هر از چند گاهی در وبلاگ‌ها و حتی بعضی روزنامه‌ها مطرح می‌شود. 

حالا دیگر مد شده كه هر كس كتاب «غلط ننویسیم» ابوالحسن نجفی را دستش بگیرد و با اشاره به نكاتی از آن كتاب، به پایبندی‌اش به اصول استاد فخر بفروشد و دیگران را از عصیان علیه زبان مادری برحذر دارد.

کلمات ایرانی در انگلیسی

Nav-1 ناو: واژه ایرانی به معنی کشتی است و ازهمین ریشه ناوبان – ناوخدای (ناخدا) مشتق می شود. درانگلیسی Navigate (کشتی رانی) وNavigable (قابل کشتی رانی) Navigator (ملاح) Navy blue (آبی سیر) و Naval (وابسته به نیروی دریانی) ازهمین ریشه آمده اند.

 Caravan – 2کاروان.

 Arch-3 قوس: درانگلیسی به مفهوم قوس می باشد. درفارسی "ارک" اراک واریکه داریم که به معنای مرکز قلب وحتی قوس به کار رفته اند .  واژه اراک ایرانشهر به معنی دل ایرانشهر بوده است. ازهمین ریشه کلمات Archreology (قوس شناسی وسپس معماری )  گرفته شده است.

 King- 4پادشاه : این واژه انگلیسی و  Konig آلمانی و  واژه های مشابه درسوئدی دانمارکی نروژی فنلاندی وایسلندی از ریشه Kay پهلوی وKavi اوستایی است. درزبان پشتو خنتما (نجیب زاده وبزرگوار) ودرزبان ترکی خان به احتمال زیاد بااین ریشه ها قرابت دارند. به این کلمات دقت کنید تا پی به شباهت آنها ببرید.            کی – کیان Kikg- Kigam KONIG- خان – خنتما – کان- کاندیدا.

 dinar-5 دینار: پول عربی که ریشه ایرانی اوستایی دارد. (دَریک ) نام پول زمان هخامنشیان که درکتاب مقدس تورات وانجیل یاد شده است. مدتی هم یونانیان مسکوک خود را به صورت دریک به کار می برده اند. هردو ریشه ایرانی دارند ریشه Darik بعدا به صورت Dram ودراخما Drachmaدر زبان یونانی وانگلیسی درآمده است.

 better/best-6از ریشه بهتر و بهشت فارسی هستند . اینکه این دو صفت برتر و برترین در انگلیسی بی قاعده اند علت همین است.
Pepper-7 این واژه ازفلفل ایرانی گرفته شده است. این واژه به شکلPiper درلاتین Poivre درفرانسه peppe ایتالیا و پیری دریونانی است. 
Spinach-8 اسفناج: این واژه ایرانی درزبان های دیگربه صورت گوناگون یافت می شود ازجمله درفنلاند Pikatia پیناتیا در انگلیسی و فرانسه Spinach ودرزبان های دیگر اروپایی کم وبیش تغییراتی کاربرد دارد. جالب این است که بدانیم اسفناج خود معرب سپاناج فارسی است .
 Candy-9کلمه قند واژه ای است پارسی همان طور که شکر واژه ای است ایرانی. پس ازساخته شدن شکر در ایران که ریشه آن ایرانی و فارسی است کلمه کَندکه عربی شده اش  قند است به وجود آمد .کَندو نیز از همین ریشه ی کَند است . یکی از واژه های انگلیسی که ریشه مشابهی با کند یا  قند دارد عبارتست از: Candy (شیرینی ). به گفته محمودی بختیاری کاندیدای وکالت در زمان قدیم لباس سفید رنگ شکری می پوشیده وبه همین ترتیب خود را نامزد انتخابات می کرده و بدین گونه واژه Candidate (کاندیدا نامزد) ساخته شد.

 sugar-10 به معنی شکر نه تنها در فارسی بلکه در عربی (سُکَّــر) و در همه ی زبان های جهان وارد شده است.

Nuphar-11 نیلوفر زردNenophar-  نام گل زیبای نیلوفر است که درزبان های دیگر اروپا ازجمله فرانسه – یونانی و نیز در ترکی دیده می شود.

- Orange-12 نارنج وترنج درپارسی کهن به نارنج وپرتقال اطلاق می شده اند درفرانسه Orang در ژاپنی Orenzi ودرزبان های ترکی ،کردی ، آسوری وبسیاری اززبان های دیگر دنیا وارد شده است.
 safron- 13زعفران در همه زبانهای جهان وارد شده.

- Ginger-14زنجبیل: درزبان انگلیسی Zenzero ایتالیایی.

Lemon- 15لیمو: ریشه لیمو درغالب زبان های دنیا ازجمله ترکی، فرانسه اسپانیولی ،ایتالیایی و..به کارمی رود .همچنین کلمه Limonade که ازلیمو گرفته شده است. Lemon آب نبات ترش Lemon juice آب لیمو و ... .

 16 - کلمه بوته که ریشه ای پارسی واصیل است درزبان های اروپایی به گونهBotanic (علم گیاه شناسی) وارد شده است. وبه نظر می رسد که واژه ی Pon فنلاندی نیز کوتاه شده آن باشد. درزبان ترکی نیز واژه بوته را داریم.در عربی به صورت بوتَق وارد شده و این واژه Botanic تقریبا بین المللی است ودرتمام زبان های اروپایی به کارمی رود.

alcohl  -17  یا همان الکل نیز هر چند عربی است اما فراموش نکنیم کاشف الکل زکریای رازی ایرانی بود و در دوره ی او چون زبان عربی زبان نوشتار جهان اسلام از جمله ایران بود این دانشمند به جای اینکه یک اسم فارسی روی کشف خود بگذارد یک اسم عربی گذاشت .

18-  بیجامه بیژامه همان پاجامه در فارسی است .

19 - cake  کیک همان است که در کرمانشاه کاک گفته می شود . البته کاک همان کیک نیست . بلکه واژه ی کاک وارد انگلیسی شده است . حتی در عربی نیز وارد شده است .( کَعک ) . اگر کیک و کاک و کعک را امروزه کنار هم بگذاریم سه نوع شیرینی متفاوت هستند . اما ریشه ی آن ها یکی است .

یوگورت به معنی ماست نیز ترکی است که وارد انگلیسی شده است .

آیا قیاس گیرمت از روز نوبهار؟/ ماننده‌ات كنم به یكی روز نوبهار؟

زیباتری به ناز و دل‌انگیزتر، چو نار

توفان به لرزه آورد آن غنچه‌های ناز     

وین عهد با بهار، چه كوتاه چون شرار.

گه گرم و پر شرر شود آن چشم آسمان          = گاهی شراره می زند آن چشم آسمان

گاهی فكنده بر رخِ زرینه پود و تار

گاهی بپژمرد گل رخسار هر جمال

از دور روزگار و یا بخت سازگار!

اما بهار روی تو هرگز نپژمرد

نیزت جمال و روی نریزد به سنگ و خار

مرگ گزافگوی نلافد به سایه‌سارشْ                   = مرگ گزافگوی نگوید به سایه‌سارشْ

گر خود زمان بشوی به چنین بیت ماندگار           = بودی  چو بیندت به چنین بیت ماندگار

در باره رشته های انگلیسی - از روزنامه آفرینش

جمله مشهوريست که مي گويد هر که دو زبان را بداند در حکم دو نفر است.دانستن زبان انگليسي يا هر زبان ديگر قبل از آنکه در قالب يک رشته توضيح داده شود يک امکان فوق العاده مناسب است براي استفاده از کتاب ها و مقالاتي که دوست داريم بدون هيچگونه واسطه اي آنها را مطالعه کنيم، بهترين ترجمه ها و ماهرترين مترجمان آنچه به ما مي رسانند به اندازه اصل يک اثر نمي تواند گويا باشد به عبارتي اينجا از جاهايي نيست که کپي برابر اصل باشد. زبان انگليسي به عنوان زبان علمي و فراگير جهان شناخته شده و به عبارتي زبان مشترک بسياري از مراکز علمي گشته است. در مورد رشته زبان انگليسي که در دانشکده زبان دانشگاه ها عرضه مي گردد و آنچه قابل بيان است عبارتست از اينکه تحصيل در اين رشته ها قابليت ها و توانايي ما را براي دبيري زبان فراهم مي نمايد. تحصيلات دانشگاهي رشته زبان انگليسي اگر همراه با تلاش و پيگيري هاي مستمر دانشجو صورت پذيرد و در طول تحصيل خود همت خود را به صورت کامل بر مطالعه آثار خارجي قرار دهد امکان فعاليت در بخش هاي تخصصي تر را مي تواند بعهده بگيرد که در بخش بازار کار زبان خارجي به طور کامل به آن پرداخته ايم.آنچه بايد بدان اهميت بدهيم استفاده مطلوب از دروسي است که در طي تحصيل اين رشته فرا گرفته ايم و استفاده به صورت درست حاصل نمي شود مگر اينکه براي انتخاب اين رشته به علاقه واقعي و پشتکار خود مطمئن باشيم و نه در اين رشته و هيچ رشته ديگر عنواني ما را فريب ندهد. درس زبان فرار است و اگر از آن خوب استفاده نکنيم و براي محل کار خود تدبيري نينديشيم دچار مشکل جدي خواهيم شد. طول دوره تحصيل رشته زبان انگليسي 4 سال مي باشد.ارتباط بين دانشگاه و صنعت چند سالي است که رو به بهبود گذاشته اما اين ارتباط که بايد رابطه اي مستقيم و کاربردي باشد و در دانشگاه دروسي تدريس شود که در جامعه مورد استفاده قرار گيرد بحث بيکاري فارغ التحصيلان و اشتغال به کار آنها عوامل بسياري دارد در جاي ديگري به آن خواهيم پرداخت.آنچه در خصوص وضعيت شغلي رشته هاي زبان هاي خارجي عرضه شده قابل بيان است به اين قرار است:  امکان دبيري اين رشته ها در مراکز آموزش،کار مترجمي اين رشته ها در صورتي که گرايش مترجمي را انتخاب کرده باشيد موقعيت مناسبي را براي شما فراهم مي کند.،وزارت امور خارجه به عنوان اصلي ترين مرکز جذب دانشجويان فارغ التحصيل دانشکده هاي زبان سراسر کشور محسوب مي شود و تعامل بين دانشکده زبان هاي خارجي با وزارت خارجه گرچه در شکل ايده آل خود قرار ندارد ولي در آينده نه چندان دور اين ارتباط به نحو مطلوبي شکل خواهد گرفت.بازار کار رشته هاي زبان هاي خارجي ارتباط مستقيمي با جهان خارج نيز داد و اين نحو ارتباط مي تواند در اين بخش ها صورت پذيرد.در بخش صنعت: رفت و آمد در بخش صنعت و بازرگاني و بطور عموم در حوزه اقتصاد بسيار گسترده است و حضور زبان دان در کارخانه ها، ادارات و وزارتخانه ها براي ارتباط با بخش هاي خصوصي و دولتي کشورهاي خارجي بخش وسيبع و مهمي است براي جذب دانش آموختگان رشته هاي زبان خارجياستفاده از اينترنت و منابع خارجي در شرکت هاي خصوصي و ارتباط اين شرکت ها با دنياي خارج بسيار گسترده شده و دانستن زبان خارجي و تسلط بر يک زبان به نحوي که بتوان مخاطب را جذب نمود موقعيت خوبي را فراهم نموده است.کلاس هاي خصوصي براي دانش آموزاني که در اين درس ضعف دارند نيز بخشي از بازار کار اين رشته ها را فراهم آورده.
ديباچه: آيا مي توان درها را به روي خود بست و به همه ملت ها پشت کرد و از پيشرفت و سازندگي سخن گفت؟آيا مي توان بدون شناخت زبان انگليسي که زبان بين المللي است، از تمدن و فرهنگ اقوام و همچنين پيشرفت هاي علمي و فرهنگي و تحولات ادبي و هنري جهانيان آگاهي يافت؟و آيا مي توان ارزش مطالعه آثار اديبان بزرگي چون شکسپير، مولير، ديکنز، پروست و صدها فيلسوف و انديشمند جهان را انکار کرد؟اينجاست که بايد بر اهميت رشته هاي زبان هاي خارجه و بخصوص رشته زبان انگليسي مهر تاييد زد.رشته  زبان  انگليسي  در مقطع  کارشناسي  داراي  دو گرايش  زبان  وادبيات  انگليسي  و مترجمي  زبان  انگليسي  است.
گرايش  زبان  و ادبيات  انگليسي :
در گرايش  زبان  و ادبيات  انگليسي  طي  سه  ترم ، دروس  پايه  که  شامل  خواندن ، نگارش  و مکالمه  است ، آموزش  داده  مي شود تا دانشجو با مسائل  اساسي  زبان  آشنا گشته  و آماده  مطالعه  دروس  تخصصي  خود شامل  ادبيات  انگليسي ، ترجمه ، زبان شناسي  و روش  تدريس  ، آزمون سازي  و نقد ادبي  گردد.

در باره ویرجینیا ولف ... زندگی و آثار

ویرجینیا ولف کار نویسندگی حرفه ایش را از سال 1915 با انتشار نخستین رمانش"سفر خارج" آغاز کرد که نوشتنش هفت سال به درازا کشیده بود.این رمان کمابیش قراردادی است ولی در آثاری که پس از آن انتشار یافت به ویژه اتاق جیکاب(1922) و خانم دالووی و طرف فانوس دریایی(1927) و امواج(1931) و بین پرده‌ها (1941) ، ویرجینیا ولف روز‌به‌روز شیوه‌های نامتعارف‌تری برای نشان دادن خویش از"زندگی" و "واقعیت" پدید آورد.او در مقاله"آقای بنت و خانم براون" ناخرسندی بسیار خود را از"واقعیت" دنیای قصه‌های نویسندگان ناتورالیستی مانند جان گالزورذی و هربرث جورج ولز و آرنولد بنت بر زبان آورد.او در جای دیگری می‌گوید:"زندگی مانند چراغهای تزیینی متقارن دو طرف درشکه نیست.هاله نوری است، محیط شفافی است که ما را از آغز تا فرجام ذهن در بر می گیرد."برای رخنه در این محیط ،برای نشان دادن "خود زندگی" ، باید به "جریاناندیشه ،جریان سیال ذهن" دست پیدا کرد که محمل ذهنی آن است.در پی این هدف ،وولف روز‌به‌روز بیشتر از ظواهر زدوبه جستجوی ساختار داستانی پرداخت که"به طور معجزه‌آسایی بدون دیوار و پله هم قابل سکونت" بود.این تلاش وی موجب شد دوست و منتقدش ادوارد مورگان فورستر از خود بپرسد آیا او تند نرفته است:"نه داستانی می‌گوید نه پیرنگی می بافد.یعنی می‌تواند شخصیتی بیافریند؟" شخصیتی در نخستین رمان او می گوید:"می‌خواهم رمانی بنویسم درباره سکوت،درباره چیزهایی که مردم نمی‌گویند." در رمان ما‌قبل آخرش امواج به این مقصود بسیار نزدیک می شود.آرزوی زدودن"همه تفاله و مردگی و پیرایه" و "ارائه تمام لحظه،هر چه در بر دارد" در خاطرات نویسنده او برآوردن نزدیک می شود.نشانی از داستان و پیرنگ و گفتگو و شخصیت‌پردازی(به معنی رایجشان) بر جای نمی ماند.در عوض ،جریان افکار و احساسات شش شخصیت را داریم که بصورت رویایی عرضه می گردد.
نوشتن همه زندگی وولف بود و به معنایی کاملا حقیقی ،ماییه دوام او در برابر جنون و مرگ.
اگر امواج یک" رمان" نامتعارف بود ، نقش روی دیوار یک"داستان" نامتعارف است و شیوه او را به زیبایی نشان می دهد.راوی که پیداست خود وولف است ،نقشی را روی دیوار به خاطر می‌آورد.نقش چه بوده است؟در پایان به آن پی می بریم و گویی پیرنگ همین بوده است.ولی نکته پیرنگ نیست،همچنان که ارضای چنین کنجکاوی نیز هدف زندگی نیست.نکته این است که آن نقش ،گرانیگاه خیل وسیع تداعیهای آزادی می گردد که از شکسپیر تا حقوق زنان را دربرمی گیرد اما همه به همان پرسشهای بنیادین هنر وولف برمی گردند: چیستی واقیت و خود زندگی."اگر برخیزم و معلوم کنم که نقش روی دیوار در واقع سر یک میخ است،چه عایدم می گردد؟ دانش؟دانش چیست؟"او با این پرسش دانش شناسانه بازی می‌کند.اما زندگی چه؟"پس اگر بخواهیم زندگی را با چیزی مقایسه کنیم،باید آن را تشبیه کنیم به پرتاب شدن در تیوب با سرعت پنجاه مایل در ساعت و فرود آمدن در انتهای دیگر بدون حتی بدون یک سنجاق باقی مانده در موها!پرتاب شدن به پیشگاه خدا سرتا پا برهنه!"ولی این نقشها مانند دانه شنی که صدف برگردش مروارید می‌سازد،هسته‌های هنر وولف و پیوند ناپایدار او با سامانمندی و تندرستی بودند.او در سال 1941 خود را در رود اوز غرق کرد.چنان که داستان می گوید:الیاف یک به یک زیر فشار سرد گزاف زمین پاره می‌شوند

نگاهي كوتاه به شعر تي‌.اس.اليوت

 
اليوت را بزرگترين شاعر سده بيستم خوانده‌اند و همين مساله آدمي را برمي‌انگيزد تا اليوت را بهتر بشناسد.
«آنان كه دندان سگ را تيز مي‌كنند
مرگ را مي‌سرايند
آنان كه شكوه مرغ مگس‌خوار را مي‌درخشند
مرگ را مي‌سرايند
آنان كه به جذبه جانوران گرفتارند
مرگ را مي‌سرايند»
در شعرهايي كه بعد از سرزمين هرز سروده شده‌اند شاعر مي‌كوشد خود را از عشق به مخلوقات اين جهان، مخصوصا عشق به آدميان برهاند و به درون لحظه‌هايي بيرون از زمان نفوذ كند. لحظه‌هايي كه نقطه تقاطع زمان گذرا و زمان ابدي است. ارزش‌هاي معمولي زيستن و بعد حيواني طبيعت انسان به‌گونه‌اي مطلق انكار مي‌شود اما اين خطر هميشه وجود دارد كه تي‌.اس.اليوت حتا زماني كه شعرهايش بسيار زيبا است به كلي‌‌گويي‌هاي ساده‌گرايانه سقوط كند كه ممكن است بسياري از مردم به دروغ آن را تجربه انساني فرض كنند.
«شايد كه گناه به كشش و كوشش برخيزد
با تولد سياه و غريزي خود، تا به هوشياري رسد،
و بدين‌سان به هرزه‌دراني رسد،
شايد كه تو هوشياري تبار نامراد خويش باشي،
مرغي كه به‌گذرا از شعله‌هاي برزخ فرستاده‌اند.»
اين قطعه با آن قدرت بياني كه ريشه در زبان دقيق و حساب‌شده آن دارد با وزني كه از تصاوير شفاف آن تفكيك‌ناپذير است و به قدرت القاي آن مي‌افزايد، به راستي كه شعري است در آسمان هفتم.
اما در اين ميان پرسشي مطرح مي‌شود كه شاعر چه ميزان از تجربه‌هايش را مي‌تواند به ياري تخيل خود در قالب شعري با اين كيفيت بريزد. در آثار اوليه شاعر زندگي دوزخ است و پس از آثار ميانه زندگي به آساني نفي مي‌شود. هر جا كه صحبت از زندگي واقعي مثل ازدواج و كار پيش مي‌آيد، همه چيز تا سطحي خفه و كسالت‌بار خاكستري نزول مي‌كند.
بيش از اين نمي‌توان به اين مضمون‌ها پرداخت و گفت كه آثار اليوت رو به سوي هم‌نهادي دارد. كه جمع جهان‌هاي متخاصمي است كه با هم آشتي كرده‌اند؛ و ناگفته نماند كه اين آشتي به منزله آن نيست كه خوبي يا بدي سازش مي‌كنند، بلكه بدين‌ مفهوم است كه جان و جسم، واقعيت زمان و واقعيت بي‌زماني به صورت دو نيرو با شدت مساوي دو نيروي هم‌آهنگ انگاشته شده‌اند. اما اين نهاد هرگز كامل كامل نيست. اليوت در دو اثر بزرگ خود بيش از هر جاي ديگري به پيوند ميان بهشت و دوزخ نزديك مي‌شود: سرزمين هرز و چهار كوارتت.
اليوت به يك بحران حقيقي در تمدن جهان مي‌پردازد، روند عيني‌سازي شعر كه اليوت مجدانه در پي آن است بيش از هر زمان ديگري تحقق مي‌يابد: مرحله سرخوردگي و نوميدي در پس‌زمينه‌اي از انقلاب و فروپاشي بعد از جنگ جهاني اول و حمله‌هاي هوايي و نبرد بريتانيا در جنگ دوم.
نكته ديگر آن كه وقتي اليوت در شعر از درون خود بيرون مي‌آيد و رو به سوي جامعه دارد، اين‌جاست كه شعر تكه‌تكه شدن روح خود وي را منعكس مي‌كند و بدين‌سان اليوت ناگزير بدين‌جا (نقطه عزيمت) رسيد كه فرد در ادوار فروريزي تمدن بالاخص مسؤول شخص خويش مي‌شود و نبايد فراموش كند كه فرد تنها در همين دوره انحطاط و فروپاشي، در همين شهرهاي ويران و تكه‌تكه زندگي نمي‌كند، بلكه در ابديت و شهر خدا نيز سكونت دارد. شايد بتوان گفت، هسته مركزي آثار اليوت كاوش و بررسي اين حقيقت است كه در عصر ما امكان وجود هم‌نهادي ميان شهر نوين و جهان صنعتي كاملا به زمان ميرنده پيوند خورده است و درگير قماري است كه هر لحظه ممكن است به نابودي آن بيانجامد و شهر ابدي كه در پي تمدن فراسوي زمان ميرا چشم دوخته است، نيست. بنابر اين براي ما هنر راستين به ناگزير تكه‌تكه و پراكنده است. به تعبير ديگر از نظر اليوت در جهان امروز هماهنگي وجود ندارد. يعني اميد به رستگاري نيست و از سوي ديگر لارنس معتقد است كه با برقراري رابطه جنسي ميان زن و مرد مي‌توان جهان امروز را از انهدام نجات داد.

نگاهی اجمالی به ادبیات انگلیسی

 تا سال 1362 میلادی زبان انگلیسی در کشور انگلستان زبان رسمی نبود! در آن تاریخ زبان انگلیسی زبان حقوقی دادگاههای انگلستان اعلام گشت، در سال 1363 نخست وزیر انگلستان هنگام افتتاح پارلمان به زبان انگلیسی سخن گفت و از آن به بعد زبان انگلیسی زبان رسمی گردید. نویسندگان و دانشمندان تا قرن شانزدهم به زبان لاتین آثار خویش را می‌نویشتند لکن درام پردازان آثار خود را به زبان انگلیسی.

قدیم‌ترین درام موجود به زبان انگلیسی Mystery (نمایش یک داستان مذهبی) به نام جان ‌آزاری دوزخ در سال 1350 نمایش داده شد. موضوع داستانش مشاجره لفظی است میان مسیح و شیطان در دهانه دوزخ در حدود 1182 از شبیه سازی‌های لاتین یکنوع درام بوجود آمده بود که به آن Miracle (معجزه) می‌گفتند و درباره‌ معجزات و مصیبت‌های عده‌ای از قدیسان بود. در حدود 1378 یکنوع درام اخلاقی به روی صحنه آمد که در قالب داستان آن یک نکته اخلاقی نهفته بود این نوع درام تا حوالی 1480 میلادی با به وجود آمدن درام Everyman به درجه‌ای از کمال رسید.

انترلود یکنوع درام به صورت نمایشی بود که میان دو یا چند بازیگر اجرا می‌گشت و موضوعش متنوع حتی گاه غیر دینی و مستهجن بود و در میدا‌ن‌ها، مسافرخانه‌ها اجرا می‌گردید زیرا هنوز برای تآتر جای مخصوصی نبود تا اینکه اولین تاتر انگلستان بلکه اروپا بعد از روم باستان در سال 1348 تأسیس شد.

اولین منظومه بزرگ انگلیسی که در عین حال اشعاری محکم و جالب دارد. به نام رؤیای ویلیام درباره پیر شخم زن می‌باشد از نویسنده‌اش چندان اطلاعی در دست نیست، این اثر سه بار از 1362 تا 1394 منتشر گشت، اشعارش دارای قافیه نبود به جای آن یکنوع جناس حرفی و صوتی در اوزان نامتساوی داشت.

منظومه با رؤیاهائی چند از شاعر آغاز می‌شود، در رؤیای اول شاعر در دشتی پر از مردمان مختلف از لحاظ خوبی، بدی، فقیر و غنی، پیر و جوان که در بین آنها زنی زیبا که مظهر کلیسا دیده می‌شود شاعر در مقابل زن زانو می‌زند و از او طالب رستگاری روح می‌شود زن شخصی راستگو راست کردار است که به دیگران را نمی‌خواهد و به مسیح می‌ماند.

در رؤیای دوم گناهان بزرگ هفتگانه را می‌بیند و در هر بحث از این گناهان آدمی را محکوم و پایان دنیا را آرزو می‌کند تا اینکه پیر برزگر ظاهر می‌شود و در اینجا شاعر از شقاوت کشیشان و فساد آنها سخن می‌گوید و رستگاری را در مسیح می‌جوید. در داستان برزیگر پیر صحنه‌های زندگی آدمی به روشنی توصیر گردیده و پر از احساس زیبائی و جذابیت است به طوریکه در قرن چهاردهم بعد از آثار چاسر در درجه اول قرار دارد. شاعر در پایان آخرین رؤیا از پاپ بریده به دامان پیر برزگر می‌آویزد و رستگاری را در سادگی و درستی می‌داند.

جان گاور Gower از شاعران بزرگ انگلیسی و مردی مرفه‌الحال و اخلاق بود و از اواخر زندگی ر دیری معتکف شد شیوه‌ای انتقادی داشت کلیسا و مفاسد آنرا سخت بباد انتقاد می‌گرفت.

جفری چاوسر (1400-1340)

مردی با نشاط و پرقدرت و در نویسندگی پرشور و رسام و مصدر زندگی مردم انگلستان قرن چهاردهم بود. اصلش فرانسوی ونامش به معنای کفشگر، پدرش یک تن می‌فروش در لندن بود از جوانی از مطالعه کتاب غفلت نکرد، سفرهای داخل و خارج انگلستان وی را شاعری توانا کرد مخصوصاً ادبیات ایتالیائی در وی تأثیر گذاشت، روزگارش با اعانات و کارهای دولتی که می‌کرد می‌گذشت و چون مرد او را بواسطه اینکه مستأجر املاک دیر وست‌مینستر بود در این گورستان به خاک سپردند نه بخاطر شاعری، چوسر مطالعه را خیلی دوست می‌داشت و بعد از اتمام هر شغل موظف، خود را به کتابهایش می‌رسانید و غرق در مطالعه می‌شد.

کتاب دوشس، انجمن ماکیان، افسانه‌های زنان خوب، خانه شهوت را بنظم درآورد تسلی بخش فلسفه اثر بئوتیوس Boethius را ترجمه کرد. در سرودن منظومه تروپلوس و کریسید گرچه طولانی و شاید خسته کننده است، ولی بزرگترین شعر روانی انگلستان می‌باشد که از آثار کاچیو استفاده کرد و بر 2730 بیتی که از بوکاچیو گرفت 5696 بیت نیز افزود.

کریسید برای رسیدن به معشوق می‌بایستی 6000 بیت بخواند تا به معشوق برسد و چون لحظه‌ای از وصال گذشت چاوسر بساط عاشق و معشوق را بر هم می‌ریزد و جدائی میان آن در هم می‌ریزد وجدائی میان آن دو می‌افکند موضوع این منظومه از یونان باستان اقتباس شده و قهرمان چاوسر چون ترویلوس بدست آخیلس کشته می‌شود با دعای زاهدانه‌ای درباره آب، ابن و روح القدس داستان را پایان می‌دهد.

چاوسر داستانهای کاتربوری را با چنان مهارتی سرود و در طی نیم قرن سیر و سیاحت و سیر آفاق و انفس قهرمانان متعدد داستان از طبقات مختلف را چنان زیبا و مناسب در منظومه خویش جا داده است که آدمی دردها، خنده‌ها و ناکامی‌های آنها را حس می‌کند. در میان قهرمانان شهسوار، پسر شهسوار، مباشر، راهبه، چند کشیش، راهب عاشق پیشه، دانشجوی کشتی‌ران، مسافر‌خانه‌چی و … را در این منظومه بوصف و سخن درآورده و روح و جان واقعی در داستان دمیده است.

چاوسر مفاسد و معایب جامعه را خوب درک کرده و در مجموع 50 داستانی که وعده داده، فقط 32 داستان را سروده است اقتباس‌ها از منابع مختلف دیده می‌شود اما از طبع توانای شاعر نیز مطالب بکر پدید آمده است. در خفایای روانی شخصیت‌های داستان کاوش کرده و به زبان هر یک به مناسبت حال آنها سخن گفته است زنان طبقه پست را تا حدی فرومایه می‌داند اما به زبان شریف نیز اشاره کرده است. از خطاها و حقارت‌های آدمی خوب آگاهی دارد و نقائص بشری را خوب می‌شناسد و هجو عمیق از قبایح و آلودگی‌ها می‌کند. از خرافه پرستی عهد خویش دور بود ظاهراً به دوزخ و بهشت اعتقاد داشت.

قرن شانزدهم و در دوران الیزابت ملکه انگلستان کتب بسیار از نظر و نثر و نمایشنامه از آثار کلاسیک یونانی، رومی، حتی ایتالیائی، اسپانیائی فرانسوی به زبان انگلیسی ترجمه شد بنابرانی ادبیات انگلیسی از منابع و سرچشمه‌های ترجمه‌های متنوع از آثار خارجی تأثیر گذاشت که بسیاری از نویسندگان مهم انگلیسی زبان فرانسه می‌دانستند، نفوذ ادبیات ایتالیای قرن چهاردهم و پانزدهم بر انگلستان بیش از اندازه بود حتی نوشته‌های بوکاچیو نویسنده و شاعر ایتالیائی مورد تقلید مارلو، شکسپیر ، وبستر و مسنجر Massinger و فورد قرار گرفت و افسانه‌های انگلیسی نیز در ایتالیا تأثیر کرد. جنگهای مذهبی که میان پروتستانها و کاتولیک‌ها در گرفت سبب شد که سرزندگی و نشاط ادبی رنسانس ایتالیا به اسپانیا و انگلستان راه یابد.

در انگلستان دوران الیزابت بیش از دویست تن شاعر معروف وجود و نظمو نثر رواج تمام داشت رفته رفته بازار نثر در انگلستان رایج‌تر می‌شد و کتاب ملکه به زبان اثر اسپنسر توجه مردم را به سوی نثر افزایش داد.

جان لیلی اولین کسی بود که مطلبی خیالی زیر عنوان یوفیوس یا تشریح ذوق در سال 1579 به نثر نشوت (درین اثر جوانی به نام یوفیوس که حوادثی بر او می‌گذرد). در این کتاب مباحثی در تعلیم و تربیت، کفر والحاد، دوستی و عشق و غیره آمده و از کتب موفق پر فروش زمان خود بود. شاید علت توفیق این اثر ادبی وجود تشبیهات، جناس‌ها، عبارات متعادل و اشارات کلاسیک بود. توجه به کلمات و واژه‌ها در دوران الیزابت خیلی زیاد بود و گبریل‌ هاروی استاد کمبریج، سیدنی و اسپنسر در راه تأکید این موضوع کوشش فراوان کردند حتی انجمی ادبی به نام آرئوپاگوس تأسیس کردند اما عده‌ای نیز بهجو و مسخره کردن کارهای این دسته پرداختند و در نتیجه فحش و ناسزاگوئی در آثار و محاورات ادبی انگلستان راه یافت.

رابرت گرین مردی بی‌بند و بار بود که در سفرهایش به ایتالیا به قول خود مرتکب هر نوع آلودی و فساد شد چون به انگلستان بازگشت همان شیوه را در پیش گرفت آثاری خلق کرد که در خور توجه و ستایش است زیرا در عمر کوتاه خویش آثار متنوعی به وجود آورد از جمله:

اکتشاف عظیم تقلب (1591) که در از تقلب اوباش، حقه‌بازان، جیب‌برها، فاحشه‌ها برحذر داشت روی همین اصل اراذل کمر به قتل وی بستند.

سی‌ و پنج رساله و نمایشنامه متعدد نوشت. در سال 1591 کتابی تحت عنوان وداع با حماقت نوشت و در سال 1592 دو رساله جالب نوشت: 1- لطیفه‌ای به یک درباری نویسنده در آن به گبریل هاروی حمله کرد 2- بذله‌گویی بی‌ارزش‌گرین که با یک میلیون توبه خریداری شده است و در آن به شکسپیر حمله کرد.

تام‌ناش از دوستان گرین و از یاران شکسپیر و فرزند کشیشی بود که زندگی خود را با نوشتن تأمین و با اراذل و اوباش حشر و نشر می‌کرد. مسافر بدبخت یا زندگی جک ویلتون و چندین رساله جوابیه تحت عنوان برویه سفرون والدن از آثار وی است. مسافر بدبخت رمانی است که در آن اراذل و ولگردان نقش‌های مهمی به عهده دارند.

تام تانش نمایشنامه دیدو Dido اثر مارلو دوست خود را کامل و با بن جانسون در تهیه کتاب جزیره سگان همکاری کرد و در سال 1601 در 34 سالگی درگذشت.

فیلیپ سیدنی (1554-1585) ظاهراً مردی ظریف اندام و بی‌بهره از تندرستی کامل ولی شجاع بود. در خانواده‌ای بزرگ و اشرافی پرورش و در نه سالگی منصب کلیسائی با حقوق سالانه 60 لیره یافت. در کمبریج تحصیل و به ایتالیا‏‏، فرانسه، هلند ، آلمان ، لهستان ، مجارستان و اتریش سفر کرد. چون به انگلستان بازگشت در دربار به مقام مهمی رسید با اینکه چندان ثروتمند نبود با اینحال از ادیبانی چون کامدن، هکلوت Haklwut ناش‏، هاروی، دون، جانسون و اسپنسر حمایت کرد. علاوه بر این در مباحث ادبی نظریات جالبی اظهار و آثار متنوعی از قبیل: دفاع از شعر‏، قصه‌های عاشقانه‏، غزل‌های عاشقانه و آثار جالب دیگر خلق کرد. سیدنی در جنگی زخمی شد و بر اثر آن مرد.

ادموند اسپنسر (1599-1552)

در خانواده‌ای متوسط به دنیا آمد دوران تحصیل و نوجوانی را به سختی گذرانید قبل از سی‌سالگی به نویسندگی و سرودن شعر پرداخت‏، در سال 1579 قسمت اول ملکه پریان را به هاروی نشان داد اما وی آنرا نپسندید و توصیه کرد از این کار دست بکشد ولی اسپنسر همچنان بکار خود ادامه داد.

سالنامه چوبان نیز یکی از آثار این شاعر نویسنده است که در آن عشق کالین کلوت چوبان به روزالیند وصف شده است.

در سال 1586 ملکه پریان را تکمیل و با افزودن مطالب و اشعار و مدح‌های فراوان از اشخاص مهم درباری و دولتی انگلستان آنرا به ملکه انگلستان تقدیم کرد و در نتیجه مورد لطف و مرحمت عده‌ای واقع شد. اما دسته‌ای او را قافیه پرداز بی‌سرو پا می‌دانستند.

اسپنسر به تکمیل ملکه پریان پرداخت و می‌خواست آنرا در 12 جلد تنظیم نماید اما به تکمیل 6 جلد آن تا سال 1596 بیشتر توفیق نیافت و دنباله کار را رها کرد. در هر یک از این کتابها قصه‌ای مناسب حال که در آنها توصیف مردانگی‏، دوستی، عدال و عفت شده آمده است.

غزلیاتی تحت عنوان عشق‌های کوچک شاید تقلیدی از پترارک باشد و در آن از عشقبازی یکساله‌اش با زنی که به همسری‌اش درآمد سرود.

چهار سرود که در آن از عشق زمینی‏، زیبایی زمینی‏، عشق آسمانی و زیبائی آسمانی از آثار با ارزش اسپنسر است. وی چون از یغماگری ایرلند بوسیله انگلیسی‌ها بهره فراوان یافته و املاک مزروعی وسیعی بچنگ آورده بود با قلمی روان مطلبی تحت عنوان چگونه انگلیسی ها می‌توانند پول و قوای خود را برای انقیاد آن جزیره بکار برند نوشت سرانجام بر اثر شورش ایرلند هاوی و همسرش بسختی به انگلستان گریختند و سه ماه در فقر و سرگردانی در سال 1599 مرد.

غزل سرائی در عصر الیزابت غالباً رواج اما مضامین متشابه داشت، شاعران آن دوره دانیال‏، مایلک در بتون، بن جانسون بودند.

نثر انگلیسی رونق و شکوه فراوان یافت با اینحال یک قرن از فرانسه عقب‌تر و فاقد نویسندگان برجسته‌ای بود.

درایتون (1563-1631)

مایکل داریتون شاعر انگلیسی که اشعارش روانترین و شیواترین اشعار شعرای عصر الیزابت اول در انگلستان بود. دارای دیوان و مجموعه‌های اشعار فراوانی بود، از جمله کتاب انسان در قمر می‌باشد. درایتون با کمک عده‌ای‏، تعدادی نمایشنامه و داستان بوجود آورد که اکنون در دست نیست.

درام

از زمان چاوسر تا اسپنسر نویسندگی و درام نویسی در انگلستان ترقی یافت ولی علل آن بدرستی معلوم نیست آیا نفوذ ادبیات خارجی بر ادبیات انگلیسی یا صلح و آرامشی ممتد یا بروز آشوب‌ها و جنگها سبب پیشرفت انگلیسی‌ها در درام نویسی و اجرای نمایش نمایشنامه‌های جالب گردید به هر حال نویسندگان از پلوتوس و ترانس فن کمدی و از سنکافن تراژدی را فرا گرفتند و بازیگران ایتالیائی در انگلستان نمایش‌های متعددی اجرا می‌کردند و همه اینها در تکامل و وسعت فکری انگلیسی مؤثر بود. از سال 1592 تا 1642 تعداد 435 کمدی در این کشور نمایش داده شد.

اولین کمدی به سبک کلاسیک بنام رالف لافزن و پر سر و صدا در سال 1561 بوسیله نیکولا یودل نوشته شد.

وحدت‌های سه گانه«وحدت زمان از یک روز تجاوز نکند- وحدت مکان- وحدت عمل) به تبعیت از درام نویسی یونان و روم در انگلستان رعایت می‌شد این امر به وسیله کاستلوترو برای اولین بار صورت گرفت و اعلام شد. اما در انگلستان به این سه وحدت چندان اهمیت داده نشد زیرا غایت مطلوب رنسانس در انگلستان آزادی‏، اراده، بذله‌گوئی و زندگی بود مثلاً با یک اشاره با یک مصراع می‌توانست درام نویس بازیگر از قاره‌ای به قاره دیگر برود روی همین اصل وحدت مکان رعایت نمی‌شد.

درام انگلستان بیش از آنکه زمینه را برای ظهور مارلو و شکسپیر آماده سازد مجبور بود که از موانعی چند بگذرد و آن اشکال تراشی‌های کلیسا و کشیشان بود زیرا که روز یکشنبه روز نمایش بود و در هنگامی که ناقوس کلیسا مردم را برای نماز بعد از ظهر کلیسا فرا می‌خواند شیپور نمایش به صدا در می‌آید و در نتیجه تماشاخانه پر و کلیسا‌ها خالی از جمعیت می‌شد و از اینجا کینه و مانع تراشی کلیسا آغاز می‌گشت. در این احوال مخالفان و موافقان درام به نوشتن و پاسخ دادن رسالات متعددی پرداختند و در این گیر و دار سانسور نمایش‌ها آغاز و شکسپیر از این پیش آمد اندوهگین شد و گفت اولیای امور زبان هنر را بسته‌اند اما چون نمایش‌ها مورد پسند دربار الیزابت بود لذا مأموران سانسور ملکه 6 دسته را برای نمایش در شهر صالح تشخیص داد.

نخست نمایش هاوی سکوهای موقتی در حیاط مهمانخانه اجرا می‌شد اما در سال 1576 اولین تماشاخانه دائمی به وسیله جیمز بریج در خارج از شهر و در حومه لندن ایجاد گردید و پس از آن تماشاخانه‌های دیگری تأسیس شد. دراین تآترهای چوبی دو هزار تن تماشاچی می‌توانستند نمایش را ببینند که هزار تن آنها ایستاه و بقیه نشسته بودند.

کریستو فرمارلو

یکی از درام نویسان بزرگ انگلیسی و فرزند کفاشی از مردم کنتر بری بود که تحصیلات دانشگاهی را به پایان رسانید و نمایشنامه‌های جالبی حین و بعد از تحصیل نوشت از جمله تیمورلنگ کبیر را تصنیف کرد با اینکه از لحاظ فن درام نویسی جالب نیست اما در زمان مارلو با استقبال فراوان روبرو شد.

سرگذشت غم انگیز دکتر فاوست که مایه قرون وسطائی دارد یکی از آثار پر ارزش مارلو می‌باشد.

مارلو آثار دیگری از جمله اداورد دوم‏، دیدو، هرودولیاندر (شرح عاشقانه منظوم که از قصه موزیوس در قرن پنجم گرفته شده) نامه چوپان شوریده به معشوق می‌باشد.
مارلو در جوانی یعنی در 27 سالگی‏، در سال 1593 مرد. این درام نویس تأثیر فراوانی بر درام نویسان الیزابت از جمله شکسپیر گذاشت.

شکسپیر (1616-1564)

ویلیام شکسپیر از بزرگترین درام نویسان انگلستان بود که آثار دوران نخستین حیاتش چندان قابل توجه نبود ولی چون به مرحله استادی و تکامل رسید به خلق آثار جاویدانی توفیق یافت البته بیشتر داستانهائی که این دارم نویس خلق کرده قبلاً به صورت نیمه تاریخ یا قصه و افسانه‌ به رشته تحریر درآمده بود از جمله نمایشنامه هاملت 6 سال پیش از اینکه شکسپیر آن را به رشته تحریر و بر روی صحنه نمایش بیاورد در لندن به معرض نمایش گذاشته شد و نویسنده‌اش فرانسوادوبلفورست یا ساکسوگراماتیکوس بود البته چون آن نمایشنامه که تحت عنوان سرگذشت‌های غم‌انگیز بود در دست نیست تا بتوان میزان و نحوه اقتباس شکسپیر را تعیین کرد.

نمایشنامه رومئو و ژولیت را شکسپیر از داستان مازوکیو و باندلو اقتباس کرد البته این اثر را نخست آرتور بروک در انگلستان در سال 1562 به رشته نظم درآورد و شکسپیر از روی این اثر منظوم یا اثر دیگری در سال 1595 بر روی صحنه آورد.

روی هم رفته شکسپیر هر ساله در زمینه نمایشنامه و اجرای آن در صحنه‌های تآترها موفقیت‌ فراوان به دست می‌آورد از جمله در اتهامی که به پزشک مخصوص ملکه در سال 1594 که یک نفر یهودی بود زدند و عوام اعدام این یهودی را خواستار بود و در میخانه‌ها از قساوت و بی‌رحمی یهودیان سخنان فراوان گفته می‌شد‏، شاید شکسپیر بواسطه این طغیان عمومی عوام یا با مأموریت یک مقام دولتی به نوشتن و بر روی صحنه آوردن تاجر ونیزی که در آن شایلاک تاجر یهودی با تصویری هر چه زشت‌تر نشان داده شده است‏، پرداخت.

شکسپیر مدت پنج سال به نوشتن نمایشنامه‌های کمدی و خیالی و اجرای آنها بر روی صحنه‌ها‏، مشغول بود و در این مدت نمایشنامه‌هائی از قبیل: رؤیای یک نیمه شب تابستان، هر چه پایانش نیکوست خوش است، هیاهوی بسیار بر سر هیچ، شب دوازدهم، رام کرن زن سرکش (بدزبان) بر روی صحنه آورد و برای تآتر پولی از این طریق فراهم ساخت زیرا این گوه نمایش‌ نامه‌های خیالی و کمدی در دل عوام مورد پسند می‌افتاد تا اینکه شکسپیر با نوشتن و عرضه نمایشنامه دو قسمت هانری چهارم (1595- 98)‏، هانری پنجم (1599) که سرگذشت شاهان با درآمیختن به مسائل هزل آمیز و ظاهر شدن اراذل و اوباش در اینگونه نمایش‌هاست‏، مردم را سخت دلباخته تماشا کرد.

شکسپیر با درآمیختن جنبه هزل و جد توفیق و معروفیت فراوان بدست آورد. در سال 1579 سر تامس نورث کتاب شرح حال رجال نامی پلوتارک را به انگلیسی ترجمه کرد، شکسپیر از این اثر تاریخی سه داستان برگزید از جمله تراژدی ژولیوس سزار را پدید آورد که یکی از قوی‌ترین و با ارزش‌ترین آثار نمایشنامه‌نویسی است. مخصوصاً سخنرانی بروتوس (بعد از قتل قیصر بوسیله توطئه گران) جالب‌ترین نوع سخنرانی است و این از ابداعات شکسپیر است.

شکسپیر نمایشنامه‌هایش را غالباً در حضور ملکه الیزابت و جیمز اول بر روی صحنه می‌آورد و مورد استقبال فراوان واقع می‌شد. اتللو در سال (1604) پدید آورد اتللو سرداری نیرومند اما احمق‌گونه و دزدمونا زنی وفادار و یاگو مردی پلید است که سرانجام با کشته شدن دزدمونا بدست شوهرش اتللو و خودکشی اتلو نمایشنامه پایان می‌پذیرد اما باید توجه داشت که بیش از حد غلو در امر خیانت و حماقت بشر درین اثر بچشم می‌خورد.

نمایشنامه مکبث (1605) یک نمونه کامل و وحشتناک از بدی مطلق است. در نمایشنامه لیرشاه (؟1606) اوج عاطفی شکسپیر بکمال می رسد این تراژدی را نخست جفری از مردم مانموث نوشته آنگاه هالینشد از آن اقتباس کرد سپس یک نفر درام‌نویس گمنام آنرا بنام تاریخ حقیق کینگ‌لیر بر روی صحنه آورد و سرانجام شکسپیر آنرا بصورت نمایشنامه‌ای زیبا درمی‌آورد که لیرشاه درین نماشنامه دیوانه و مخلوع سپس فوت می‌شود. گلوستر بوسیله شاه‌لیر کور می‌شود اما جلو زنا را نمی‌گیرد و می‌گوید زیرا سرباز ندارم در بین نمایشنامه تقوی حجابی برای پوشش شهوات نفسانی و رشوه‌‌خواری و قتل آدمی بدست آدمی در سراسر داستان با شدت به چشم می‌خورد و بدی و زشتی در همه نمایشنامه سایه افکنده و قهرمان داستان از مشاهده عمومیت و غلبه ظاهری بدی دیوانه و از خدای عدالت نومید می‌گردد.

در نمایشنامه آنتوان و کلئوپاترا (؟1607) شکسپیر شخصیت متضادی از کلئوپاترا نشان می‌دهد این زن در میدان جنگ ترسو اما در خودکشی با عزمی قوی است و عشق آنتوان به ملکه مصر تا حد زیادی ساختگی و باورنکردنی است. موضوع داستان این نمایشنامه از قصه رایج زمان نویسنده اقتباس گشته است.

در نمایشنامه تیمون آتنی بدبینی کمتر بچشم می‌خورد و قهرمان اصلی آن کوریولانوس مردمان را تهی‌مغز متلون و متملق و تمدن را برای آدمی زیان‌آور می‌داند تیمون مردی ثروتمند بود که دوستان متملق قراوان بدور خود داشت اما چون ثروتش را از دست داد یاران از او کناره جستند تیمون گوشه‌گیری و از ریشه گیاهان تغذیه می‌کند ضمن شکافتن زمین به طلا برمی‌خورد دوستان بدورش جمع می‌شوند اما تیمون آنها را از خود می‌راند ولی به زنان هرجائی طلا می‌دهد تا هر چه بیشتر مردان را به مراض مقاربتی دچار کنند!

Biography of Joyce Kilmer

 

Joyce Kilmer (1886 - 1918)

Joyce Kilmer (December 6, 1886-July 30, 1918) was an American poet; his best-known work is "Trees". The poem is notable for its anthropomorphism: the tree in the poem presses its mouth to the earth's breast and looks at God and raises its leafy arms to pray. The poem was given a musical setting that was quite popular in the 1940s and 1950s.

Kilmer was killed in action by a sniper during World War I and is buried in the Oise-Aisne Cemetery, Fere-en-Tardenois, France.

Short Stories

Short stories are often considered to be the most perfect form of fiction writing, and nearly every author of merit has many great tales to their name. We feature some of the most famous authors of short stories such as O. Henry, Saki (Hector Monro), Rudyard Kipling, H.G. Wells, Oscar Wilde, Jack London and Henry James. Alongside them we have the stories of great dramatists and novelists such as Anton Chekhov, Daniel Defoe, Charles Dickens, Aldous Huxley, Antony Trollope and Emile Zola; and undeservedly lesser known authors such as the hilarious Ambrose Bierce, and Barnaby Rich (whose 1581 book 'Farewell to the Military Profession' provided Shakespeare with the plot for "Twelfth Night").

Collections by individual authors include P.G. Wodehouse's brilliant The Man Upstairs, Edgar Allen Poe's Tales of Mystery and Imagination and James Joyce's controversial classic Dubliners.

Forgiveness

Loving you is so easy.

There are too many reasons why I love you…

The little things you do, the simple words that you say, the feelings and thoughts that you bring to my life.

I adore your eyes, your face your smile.

There are so many things to love about you!

Do you know I love it when you say my name?

Do you know I love the way that you walk?

Do you know that I love the way that skin smells?

Do you know I love to watch you when you are doing something?
I like to see you for more than my life.

I like you to know that I love you - and how much I love you. do you know how much ? if you don’t know , ask me. I might not be able to say, but I can show it to you.

One day, I will see you while sun is rising and then we will see which one is nicer? you or sun. But I know the answer. Something from the bottom of my heart is whispering "defiantly you".....

.... a great Friend

What should I name the feeling that I have? Is it love? Is it happiness? Is it friendship?
I have never experienced before, it seems that a part of me is living out of my body.
I want to tell you that every time that I see you, I feel safe and sound. No matter how many times, every time I look at your eyes, I fall in love.
Even when I’m with you, I miss you. No matter how long it will take to see you, I’m always waiting for you.

When I see you, I really do not need sun and moon. Every night I’m watching your glamorous face, and everyday I’m seeing your shiny eyes.

Introduction to Poetry

Billy Collins

I ask them to take a poem
and hold it up to the light
like a color slide

or press an ear against its hive.

I say drop a mouse into a poem
and watch him probe his way out,

or walk inside the poem's room
and feel the walls for a light switch.

I want them to waterski
across the surface of a poem
waving at the author's name on the shore.

But all they want to do
is tie the poem to a chair with rope
and torture a confession out of it.

They begin beating it with a hose
to find out what it really means.
